DR. WILLIAM
S. SMITH,
BROOKLYN PHYSICIAN
Chief Attending Gynecologist at
Brooklyn Hospital

Dr. William Sidney Smith, chief attending gynecologist and
obstetrician
at the
Brooklyn Hospital for thirty-six years, died yesterday of a heart attack at his
home, 370 Washington Avenue, at the age of 61. His office was at 429
Clinton Avenue.
Born at Longwood, Yaphank, L. I., a son of Robert R. and Cornelia Thorne
Smith , Dr. Smith attended St. Paul's School, Garden City, L. I., and in
1905
received
his medical degree from the college of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia
University. In 1908 he joined the staff of the
Brooklyn Hospital as a clinical assistant.
Dr.
Smith was a former president of both the New York and the Brooklyn
Obstetrical
Societies. He was a Fellow of the
American
College
of
Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, Society of the
Lords of Manors in
America and the Society of Colonial Wars. In the First World War he held
rank of captain, Medical Corps.
A sister, Miss Helen Tangier Smith, with whom he lived, survives.
