THOMAS,
GEORGE, SAMUEL and WILLIAM ALBIN Thomas, George,
Samuel, and William Albin A Provost Marshal named Captain Smith L. Newins was given the duty of arresting Thomas Albin. Taking two men with him they went to Thomas Albin's home in Yaphank. Captain Newins demanded admission and was met at the door by Thomas, who was armed, with a musket, which he pointed at the Captain. Thomas was quickly disarmed, handcuffed and led away. Local Yaphank
resident in his diary recorded the incident. He wrote
that he attempted to explain to the Provost Marshal the
circumstances leading to the desertion, but they were not
detailed in the diary |
